The Next Generation (N-GEN) Kolkata University Post Office, renovated and upgraded under the Department of Posts’ flagship N-GEN initiative, was formally inaugurated on 24 December, at the Calcutta University Campus.
The inaugural ceremony was graciously led by Dr. Ashutosh Ghosh, Vice Chancellor, University of Calcutta, Shri Ashok Kumar, Chief Postmaster General (CPMG), West Bengal Circle, in the august presence of the Prof. Debasis Das, Registrar, University of Calcutta, and the Prof. Chatrapati Dutta, Principal, Government College of Arts & Craft, Shri Pravat Banerjee ,Sr. Superintendent of Post Offices along with senior officers of the Department of Posts, students, staffs and press and media personals.
The N-GEN Post Office represents a significant step towards modernizing postal services by offering a customer-friendly, technology-enabled, and digitally empowered service environment. The renovated post office is equipped with advanced facilities to provide a wide range of postal, financial, and digital services, including savings schemes, insurance products, mail and parcel services, and e-enabled citizen services, all under one roof.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ashok Kumar, Chief Postmaster General highlighted that the N-GEN initiative aims to transform traditional post offices into vibrant service hubs aligned with the expectations of the younger generation, while continuing to uphold the trust and reliability of India Post.
Prof. Debasis Das, Registrar of Calcutta University appreciated the Department of Posts for establishing a modern postal facility within the university campus, which will greatly benefit students, faculty, and the surrounding community by ensuring convenient access to essential services.
The inauguration of the N-GEN Kolkata University Post Office marks a milestone in strengthening the synergy between the Department of Posts and academic institutions, reaffirming India Post’s commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and service excellence.
