The Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata celebrated its 95th Foundation Day on 17th December. Indian Statistical Institute is a globally renowned institute in the field of Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Sciences and allied Sciences which was established by Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis. The foundation day celebration programme was organised at the Platinum Jubilee Auditorium.
On this occasion, Prof. C.R. Rao Centenary Gold Medal was conferred to Prof. Pranab Bardhan by The Indian Econometrics Society (TIES). Prof. Bardhan was also delivered a lecture on “Labour in a World of Inequality”. In his speech he told that Trade unions are losing existing members and unable to attract sufficient numbers of new ones. The grievances are increasing due to inordinately delayed payments of wages and extension of workday to 12 hours.
Prof. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Officiating Director of the Institute mentioned that in 1931 Presidency College hosted this Institute. This Institute has remarkable reputation not only in India but also in abroad for its contribution in research area. She also urged for upholding the reputation of the Institute unitedly.
The 4th Prof. C.R. Rao Centenary Gold Medal was also conferred to Prof. Pranab Bardhan by The Indian Econometrics Society. Prof. K. L. Krishna, Vice Chairman of the TIES felicitated Prof. Bardhan with the Medal whereas Prof. M. Ramachandran, Life Member of TIES conferred the Certificate to Prof. Bardhan.
A cultural programme was also organised on this auspicious day. A Creative Corner of the Institute was launched to commemorate the day.
