The MP Birta Institute of Fundamental Research has announced that Prof. Yashwant Gupta, Distinguished Professor and Centre Director, National Centre for Radio Astrophysics, Tata institute of Fundamental Research, Pune, has been selected as the recipient of the biennial M P Birla Memorial Award for 2025. The esteemed award recognizes Prof Gupta’s outstanding achievements and significant impact on the field of Astronomy and Astrophysics, particularly the pioneering work in Radio Astronomy.
The MP Birla Memorial Award, established in 1993 to honor the legacy of late Shri MP Birla, the founder of the MP Birla Planetarium, is one of the most respected accolades in the scientific community, specially in Astronomy, Astruphysics, Space Sciences and related fields. The award selection committee recognized Prof. Gupta’s innovative research and contributions towards Institute building.

“Prof. Gupta’s dedication to advancing our understanding of the Universe truly embodies the spirit of the MP Birla Memorial Award,” said Mr SK Daga, Honorary Secretary of the MP Birla Institute of Fundamental Research, under whose aegis the MP Birla Planetarium functions. “His research has not only opened new avenues for scientific inquiry but has also provided solutions that will benefit the advancement of human knowledge, We are thrilled to present him with this well deserved recognition” added Mr S Datta, Curator of the MP Birla Planetarium.
Prof. Gupta, who has been a leader in the field for several decades now, expressed gratitude for the honor while according his consent to receive it.
