Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Railway Minister & Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology visited Kolkata today. During this visit the Union Minister travelled in a Metro from Jai Hind Bimanbandar station to Noapara station and interacted with fellow passengers to understand their travel experience and also to get the feedback on Metro services.
After alighting from the train at Noapara, Shri Vaishnaw travelled by auto-rickshaw to have an first-hand experience of commuter travels. He travelled to Belghoria Express way on the way to Nabanna. At the Metro station, the Minister also interacted with the station Staff.
The Minister Minister also attended a scheduled meeting with Shri Suvendu Adhikari, Chief Minister, West Bengal at Nabanna, Kolkata to discuss Railway Projects and ways to take it forward. He announced that around 60 new-generation Metro trains will be inducted into the Kolkata Metro network during the next four to five years. He said the new trains will provide a facelift in the Metro services and further strengthen urban mobility and add aflory to the infrastructure capacity of the city. He added that the ongoing Metro expansion projects will significantly improve connectivity and increase commuter convenience across Kolkata.
Later in the day, Shri Vaishnaw also visited the Chingrighata Crossing of Kavi Subhash- Airport Metro Orange line Project. At this site the long- pending segment launching work has recently been completed with the help of the State Government in record time, much before the anticipated deadline.
Interacting with the media at this Shri Vaishnaw appreciated Metro Railway, Kolkata for improving the lives of common citizens, specially the low- and medium-income group of people. He has highlighted that since 2014, 45 km of the new Metro network has been commissioned in and around Kolkata as against just 28 kms before 2014.
