DeepRanjani Foundation, a Kolkata based organization dedicated to vocational rehabilitation of individuals with neuro-developmental disabilities, organised an exhibition titled ‘A Journey Through Special Senses’. This immersive exhibition was held in celebration of Autism Awareness Month, invited attendees to experience the world through the unique perspectives of individuals with neuro-developmental disabilities.
The exhibition took place at the DeepRanjani Foundation Campus on April 26th and 27th, 2024, offering attendees two days of exploration, discovery, and engagement. Visitors had the opportunity to embark on a journey like no other, delving into the rich tapestry of sensory experiences that define the lives of neurodiverse individuals.
“At DeepRanjani Foundation, we believe in creating inclusive spaces where everyone is celebrated for their unique abilities and perspectives,” said Dr. Amrita Panda, Founder of DeepRanjani Foundation.
“Through ‘A Journey Through Special Senses, we aim to challenge preconceptions, foster empathy, and promote understanding of neuro-diversity. We invite attendees to join us on this transformative journey of exploration and discovery”, she added.
The exhibition featured a series of interactive islands, each offering a glimpse into a different aspect of sensory experience.
Attendees explored Spice Island, where they inhaled the scents of exotic spices and witnessed expert spice-makers in action. Craft Island showcased the beautiful works of art created by talented craftspersons, while Bakers’ Island mesmerised visitors with the delicious aroma of freshly baked cookies and cakes.
In addition to these sensory experiences, attendees got the opportunity to interact with individuals with neuro-developmental disabilities, learnt about their experiences, and browse a range of products created by them. From clothing and bags crafted by expert artisans to unique computer-generated artwork and photos, attendees got the chance to support these talented individuals and take home a piece of their creativity.
