Kolkata to Host International Conference on VLSI Design

Very Large-Scale Integration Design as well as semiconductor industry is a ray of hope for India, with promises of sustainable growth VLSID 2024, an international conference is all set for the City of Joy. The 37th International Conference of VLSI Design and the 23rd International Conference on Embedded Systems (VLSI Design Conference 2024) with support from the West Bengal government will be take place in Kolkata from January 6-10, 2024.

Over 1000 representatives from the industry, start-ups, government, and academia would take part in the country’s largest platform for semiconductors. Peered papers on VLSI and embedded systems will be presented in this conference. The focal theme of the year is ‘VLSI Meets Al & Quantum for Cyber- Physical Systems’. Electronics and Semiconductors have emerged as critical elements of economic growth and strategic security for any country. While India steadfastly marches towards the USD 5 Trillion economy aptly supported by USD 1 Trillion Digital economy, it is imperative that India develops a self-reliant and sustainable electronics and semiconductor ecosystem within the country. The National Policy on Electronics 2019 (NPE 2019) aims to position India as a global hub for Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) and create an enabling environment for the industry to compete globally. One of the main strategies of NPE 2019 is to facilitate the setting up of semiconductor wafer fabrication facilities and its eco-system for the design and fabrication of chip components.

While addressing the media Dr. Hafizur Rahaman, General Chairs, VLSID 2024 said, “It will be a massive opportunity for West Bengal as well as for the entire Eastern India. We believe that with the active support of Government of West Bengal we can develop West Bengal as ‘Semiconductor Product State’. To develop this industry no greenfield accusation is required. We have a huge talent pool of technical training institutes which delivers skilled professionals in this state who can take forward the growth for this industry. We expect that the active drive for VLSI and semiconductors can help us to reach the goal for employment pool of technical training institutes which delivers skilled professionals in this state who can take forward the growth for this industry. We expect that the active drive for VLSI and semiconductors can help us to reach the goal for employment generation where more than 10000 professionals can be employed in every year.”

The conference will have 80 qualitative IEEE research publications and 10 tutorial sessions over the period of five days. Nearly 100 exhibit stalls will be present, covering latest domains of VLSI and embedded systems technologies and products. The conference has granted over 300 fellowships to encourage promising VLSI students, researchers, and faculty to attend the conference.

This conference is a confluence of Academia and Industry, academicians from MIT, Stanford University, Texas University, Osaka University, National University of Singapore and many more institutes will join this conference. Leading multi- national companies such as Microsoft, Intel, Google, Qualcomm, AMD, HCL, Juniper, IBM, Samsung etc. will showcase their products and new innovations at the exhibition.

The world of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) is transforming industry and lives by connecting the physical world with the cyber components in an unprecedented manner. The rapid proliferation of CPS has led to the emergence of Industry 4.0 – the fourth industrial revolution that promises a new era of intelligent autonomy. The convergence of these systems with artificial intelligence technologies is fueling decisive edge and cloud computing solutions. Similarly, quantum science and technologies provide CPS with new communication, sensing, and secure data processing capabilities.
