Organs from 67 Years Old Brain-dead Woman Saves Five Lives

A 67-year-old woman from Hooghly district was admitted to CMRI, CK Birla Hospitals Kolkata on 10th November following a severe brain stroke. On 11th November, she was declared brain-dead, and her family chose to donate her organs — a decision made in deep grief, yet guided by compassion and humanity. Her courage in death became a source of hope for others still fighting for life.

The retrieval was carried out at CMRI in coordination with the regional organ sharing network (ROTTO). Her eyes, kidneys, and liver were retrieved and shared with patients awaiting transplants. The procedure was conducted seamlessly by the hospital’s multidisciplinary transplant team, ensuring that each organ was harvested according to established protocols.
