Sikkim Tourism unveils New Destinations and Engage Stakeholders at TTF 2025 in Kolkata

Sikkim Tourism made a significant impact at the Travel & Tourism Fair (TTF) in Kolkata. The exhibition is to be held from July 10 to July 12, 2025, at the Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan in Kolkata.

Sikkim Tourism’s participation marked the introduction of two brand-new travel destinations: Yangang in South Sikkim and Soreng in West Sikkim. This engagement also heralds the first-ever representation of elected members on such a prominent platform, promising to generate substantial buzz and brand awareness.

Sikkim Tourism created considerable excitement on Day 1 of the exhibition, particularly around its planned panel discussions featuring Mr. Aditya Golay, MLA Soreng-Chakung, and Smt. Rajkumari Thapa, MLA and Dy. Speaker. These discussions will delve into the vast scope of tourism in Sikkim and the strategic new positioning of these emerging destinations. Sikkim Tourism is slated to take center stage for panel discussions immediately following the exhibition’s inauguration. Speaking about this participation, Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang Golay, “As Sikkim proudly celebrates its 50 years of statehood, we stand at a pivotal moment, embracing a vision for tourism that is deeply rooted in sustainability, community empowerment, and the authentic preservation of our pristine Himalayan heritage.” He added, “Our efforts, particularly with the introduction of new gateways like Yangang and Soreng, are not just about opening new vistas for travelers; they are about fostering genuine connections, encouraging responsible exploration, and ensuring that the benefits of tourism uplift every Sikkimese family. We are building a ‘Sunaulo, Samriddha, and Samartha Sikkim’ – a golden, prosperous, and capable Sikkim – where every visitor becomes an ambassador of our unique culture and the breathtaking beauty that has flourished for five decades as a proud state of India.”

Its strategic location offers excellent connectivity, including from Darjeeling, opening up new avenues for travelers to explore our diverse state.”

Sikkim Tourism launched its newly revamped tourism website with a live demonstration, showcasing its user-friendly interface and comprehensive information on all destinations, including Yangang and Soreng.

Mr. Aditya Golay, MLA Soreng-Chakung, stated: “Soreng offers the perfect canvas for slow travel and truly immersive experiences. It’s time Sikkim genuinely embraces rural tourism, empowering our local communities and sharing the authentic stories of these beautiful places with the world.”
Yangang, a gem in South Sikkim, has recently garnered significant attention for its ambitious new infrastructure projects, including the upcoming world-class skywalk and a modern ropeway, poised to redefine accessibility and appeal in the region. Smt. Rajkumari Thapa, MLA and Dy. Speaker, emphasized: “While impressive upcoming infrastructure like the skywalk and ropeway will undoubtedly attract many visitors to Yangang, our true focus is also on encouraging them to stay longer. We want guests to genuinely immerse themselves in Sikkim’s rich culture and deeply engage with our communities. Here in Yangang, there is so much to absorb – from the natural beauty and peaceful environment to the authentic rural tourism experiences that we know today’s travellers truly enjoy.”

To celebrate the launch of Yangang and Soreng, Sikkim Tourism is excited to announce a special giveaway: five all-paid trips to Soreng & Yangang! This includes three trips for travel agents (designed for a family of four) and two trips for influencers (for a couple). Winners will be selected through a lucky draw for attendees who complete a two-step registration process: online pre-registration and a physical check-in at the Sikkim Tourism stall. Sikkim Tourism invites all media, travel trade partners, and enthusiasts to visit their stall and participate in the engaging discussions to learn more about the enchanting new offerings from the heart of the Himalayas.

Shri Sudesh Kumar Subba, Advisor, Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, stated: “Our focus is on building a sustainable and inclusive tourism ecosystem in Sikkim, empowering local communities through homestays and rural tourism. Emphasizing slow travel and authentic experiences in places like Soreng and Yangang offers visitors deeper connections with our culture and nature, solidifying Sikkim’s role as a model for responsible tourism. This sustainable approach also creates immense potential for adventure tourism to flourish, particularly in rural areas like Maneybung Dentam, offering thrilling experiences while benefiting our local communities.”
