Several NGOs are providing voluntary services at the Gangasagar Mela Transit Camp in Babughat, Kolkata, to ensure a smooth and safe experience for pilgrims.
Many NGOs are working with the state government to manage solid waste and plastic waste at the mela ground. The social activists and green crusaders are collecting and segregating waste, and upcycling it into eco-friendly products like handmade cloth dolls and decorative glass bottles.
The West Bengal government has also launched an initiative to provide assistance to pilgrims, including food and accommodation, at the transit camp.

The Gangasagar Mela, which attracts millions of pilgrims, is considered one of the largest melas in India after Kumbh Mela. The event is being held from January 10 to 18, with the holy dip scheduled on January 14-15.
