On Saturday, the city of joy had another reason to celebrate as Kolkata Comic Con, presented by Maruti Suzuki Arena and powered by Crunchyroll, opened its doors for the 2026 edition at the Biswa Bangla Exhibition Centre. Fans flooded the venue with excitement, some dressed as their favourite characters and bringing unmatched enthusiasm and energy to the convention floor.
Internationally acclaimed Brazilian comic artist Rogê Antônio, whose impressive portfolio includes X-Men Red, Injustice: Year Zero, Carnage, and Deadpool and currently working on a new Cyclops series for Marvel Comics, captivated audiences during Creators Across Borders session, offering deep insights into his creative progress and even engaging directly with fans.
The day 1 featured a Creator’s Corner session with Harsho Mohan Chattoraj, alongside special sessions with Alpha Comics and Amar Chitra Katha. A special presentation by Warner Bros. celebrated Superman, also added to the excitement among superhero fans.
Shefali Johnson, CEO, Comic Con India expressed, “From literature to music, theatre, to cinema, or be it fine arts or art, creativity here is not just culture, it is a part of Bengal’s identity. In a city that thrives on expression and conversation with the very popular adda culture we all know, Comic Con feels like an extension of Kolkata’s soul.”
Talking about the cosplayers dedication and hard work, she further said, “Here, fandom doesn’t feel foreign, it feels at home. The passion of the fans, the depth of the cosplay community, and the love for characters and narratives make it clear that Kolkata is an essential chapter in India’s Comic Con journey. I hope more people will join us in this grand celebration of fandom, creativity and self-expression.
Cosplay enthusiasts and visitors witnessed one of the most anticipated highlights of the convention, the India Qualifiers contest for the World Cosplay Summit. The qualifiers will represent India at the grand finals in Nagoya, Japan, making it one of the most coveted global cosplay stages. Kolkata Comic Con Cosplay Contest was also hosted where winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 30,000.
The Kolkata edition of Comic Con continued to deliver an immersive entertainment experience packed with live gameplay, competitive challenges, and interactive showcases. The NODWIN Gaming Zone featured virtual and simulator gaming setups, while the Maruti Suzuki Arena Fan Experience Zone hosted reflex-testing challenges. Anime fans explored themed experiences inspired by SPY x Family and Suzume.
Movie-themed zones celebrating Supergirl, Mortal Kombat II, and The Mummy by Lee Cronin further enhanced the experience. A fulldome experience zone has also been set up. Attendees also enjoyed racing simulators by Logitech and a lively Just Dance booth.
Entertainment continued throughout the day with live performances by Kai RJ, Geek Fruit, KY Collective and MC Headshot. The laughter quotient was elevated with a stand-up comedy showcase by, featuring popular Kolkata comedian duo Sarnajit Bala and Shiladitya Chatterjee and Vaibhav Sethia.
With a spectacular opening day, Kolkata Comic Con 2026 has set the stage for an unforgettable weekend celebrating fandom, creativity, and community. More exciting programming and experiences are scheduled for day 2 as the venue has become a vibrant place with different generations coming together, united by imagination, storytelling and the freedom to be unapologetically themselves.
