CII Eastern Region Organizes its 18th Edition of Safety Symposium & Exposition in Kolkata

Larger industry players need to support MSMEs by integrating them into a comprehensive ecosystem aimed at creating a safer work environment, highlighted by Mr Rajiv Mangal, Vice President, Safety, Health & Sustainability Tata Steel Ltd during the Safety Symposium & Exposition in Kolkata. The two-day 18th edition of Safety Symposium & Exposition, organized by CII Eastern Region, to foster safety awareness among people and encouraging the implementation of new safety practices.

Mr Mangal emphasized the critical need to prioritize safety measures in the workplace. Highlighting high-risk sectors such as mining and logistics, he stressed the importance of using effective digital solutions to protect workers and ensure a safer workplace.

“Beyond disruption, digitalization fosters democratization by extending safety measures to MSMEs through inclusive initiatives” said by Mr Sandip Ghose, Managing Director & CEO Birla Corporation Ltd, during the symposium.

Mr Brajesh Singh, Managing Director – Generation, CESC Ltd highlighted the potential of automation to improve safety in the aviation industry and address climate-related hazards. He also mentioned about the effective use of AI/ML and robotics to enhance the safety of the place. “We are in an era of digital transformation, where the market has become increasingly consumer oriented. This shift emphasizes customization, which demonstrates a commitment to consumer safety” he added.

Mr Snehasis Samaddar, Executive Director (Generation), CESC Ltd, informed the audience about the shift in business focus from mere profitability to sustainable profitability, emphasizing the importance of the 3 Ps: Planet, People, and Profit.

During the event, a compendium on best safety practices was unveiled, followed by the announcement of the Safety, Environment & Health (SHE) Awards for the best performance in the field of safety, health & environment, to the eastern India’s organisations. The symposium attracted over 350 key delegates.
