The Kidderpore Jagannath Mandir celebrated the auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra 2026 with great devotion, grandeur, and vibrant cultural festivities. The celebrations began today with a colourful Rath Yatra procession that started from the Jagannath Temple in Kidderpore and proceeded to Northern Park, Bhawanipur, where the deities will stay until 23rd July. The Bahuda Yatra, marking their return journey, will be held on 24th July. The procession attracted a large number of devotees and visitors from across Kolkata and beyond.
A key highlight of the procession was the traditional Chhera Pahanra ritual, performed by Shri Ram Gopal Bansal, Chairman of BMW Industries Ltd. This age-old ritual symbolizes humility and selfless service to the divine. The procession was further enriched by devotional Kirtan and the rhythmic Ghanta-Shankh Badan presented by Shri Srikhol Debasish & team. These cultural performances added to the spiritual atmosphere and engaged devotees and onlookers throughout the journey.
Rath Yatra is one of the most celebrated festivals in Hinduism, commemorating Lord Jagannath’s annual journey to his aunt’s residence. The festival symbolizes inclusivity, divine love, and spiritual unity. The celebrations at Kidderpore Jagannath Mandir reflected a deep commitment to preserving India’s rich cultural heritage while strengthening the spirit of collective devotion, reaffirming Kolkata’s enduring spiritual and cultural traditions.
On the following day, 17th July, the Odisha Festival will be inaugurated at Northern Park by the Chief Guest, Shri Suvendu Adhikari, Chief Minister of West Bengal.
